It can help you with all queries about the following:
Academic documents
If you require academic documents such as a certificate of attendance, academic transcript (if you have completed your course), interim academic transcript (if you have not completed your course), statement of attainment, proof of enrolment letter, certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, etc., you will need to apply for them by completing an Application for Academic Records form available at reception. Please allow a minimum of 2 working days for issuance of academic documents.
Absence due to illness
You are required to attend a minimum of 80% of classes. If you are absent because of illness, you must provide a Student Services Officer with a medical certificate, from a registered medical practitioner, covering this absence on the day you return to SICB.
Holidays
You are allowed to take 8 weeks of holidays per year. You will need to complete an Application for Holidays form available at reception at least 1 week before the starting date of your holiday.
Suspension of Studies
Once you have commenced your course, you will only be allowed to suspend your studies, on the ground of illness, evidenced by a doctor's certificate, or other compassionate circumstances beyond your control, for example, death of a relative. In such cases, you will need to complete an Application for Suspension of Studies form available at reception. If you defer or suspend your studies on any other grounds, we are required to report you to DIMA as not complying with visa conditions.
Changing Courses
If you want to change courses, you will need to talk to Student Services. Being able to transfer will depend on whether there are places available in the other course, your academic progress, and your academic and English qualifications.
Visas
If you need to extend your visa, go to the Student Services office at least 2 weeks before your visa expires. You should bring your passport and Medibank details with you.
Student Cards
You will be given a student identification card, which you should carry with you at all times when you are at SICB.
Change of Address
Always keep the college informed of your details. You must notify the Student Services office of any change in your address or telephone number within 7 days. For overseas students, this is a condition of your student visa. You need to fill out a Review of Student Details form available at reception. Your details are important. If the college cannot contact you because you have not given the college notice of change of address, you may have your visa cancelled.
Welfare and Guidance services
SICB's Student Services Officers can assist students if they are having problems that are of a personal nature, are feeling distressed or upset and would like to talk to somebody about it, find life and study difficult, or would like to discuss further study options. When required or requested, students will receive assistance for academic and vocational purposes from a Faculty Coordinator or other SICB academic staff.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy support
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support will be provided by SICB in all subjects as per normal tuition practice. Students requiring extra support will be given the opportunity for that support through LLN assistance offered by SICB's ELICOS Centre.
Help with academic work
We offer complete academic support for students by providing help with academic work (writing assignments, making presentations and examination techniques) and academic counselling.
Working while you study
Australian student visa regulations enable international students to work up to 20 hours per week during term and full-time during vacations. If you do work while you study, you need to ensure that any paid work doesn't interfere with your studies.
We also advise you not to depend on part-time work to support yourself in Australia. Please visit the Working While Studying page on the Australian Immigration website to find out what you should know about working while studying in Australia.
Homestay accommodation
We can arrange homestay family accommodation. Please contact Student Services to discuss your accommodation needs.
Other Matters
Should you require information or advice on class allocations, subjects you have completed, subjects you need to undertake, examinations, results, re-assessments, attendance and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), please contact Student Services where you will receive all the information you require or be directed to a staff member for assistance.
