Electives
The core subjects are offered between 11:00 am and 2:40 pm. After the afternoon tea break, full time students attend one of a number of electives from 3:00pm to 4:00pm each weekday, namely:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) preparation
This elective gets students familiar with the IELTS exam - its format and time constraints. It gives students a good grounding on all four main skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking. This elective is open to all students at an EAP and Intermediate or above English language proficiency.
Skills Development
This non-core subject enables students to develop their communicative language skills. Students' grammar awareness is further enhanced through the use of language use reviews. This elective is offered in 2 strands -
- Basic Skills Development (for students at Elementary English language proficiency)
- General Skills Development (for students between Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate English language proficiency)
Both classes take students through very specific English practice activities.
Conversation
This elective enables students to develop their conversation skills by focusing on dialogue creation, vocabulary, and speaking. Students learn how to communicate effectively by understanding and practicing specific skills related to conversation. They also learn how to apply these skills to a real life setting.
